About Us

Pinckney Retreat is a magical gated community located in Port Royal, South Carolina. We are a residential neighborhood whose homes remain true to the grace and charm of the southern lowcountry style with front porches that foster community. Our sidewalks wander among 400-year-old live oak trees, green spaces, and ponds. Pinckney Retreat is located on a bluff along Battery Creek with a Nature Trail that follows the curve of the bluff. Amenities include a pool with a covered grilling area, fireplace and indoor kitchen as well as a community pier and dock.

The neighborhood is a 35-acre private community with 77 homes/homesites and 20 acres of common property. We are a subdivision within the Town of Port Royal and have a Community Association (CA) that is responsible to residents for long range planning and maintenance of community amenities. The CA is operated by a five-person Board of Directors, elected by the property owners. The Board elects officers and creates and approves an annual operating and capital budget.

Pinckney Retreat is named after B.G. Pinckney, who with his wife Anne, purchased part of the Retreat Plantation in 1965. The neighborhood is still home to the original 1736 marsh front tabby house and gardens. The restored home is in wonderful condition with its 22-inch-thick tabby walls, original fireplaces and wood planked flooring and is available to property owners for their use. The Retreat House is thought to be the oldest home in Port Royal, South Carolina and the oldest tabby home in South Carolina.
