Dogs running loose alert

PR Residents,

It has come to our attention that there have been multiple incidents with some very aggressive dogs running at large around the Retreat House that we believe are coming from the property next door. We will attempt to address the issue with our neighbors directly, but for your safety, we wanted to make everyone aware.

If you are walking in the Retreat House area, with or without pets, please pay attention to your surroundings.  We are asking if anyone sees these dogs, if you can, please take photos or videos and contact the Board immediately.  If we need to contact Animal Control, we need to provide them with evidence of the events.

Volunteer Thank You!

A huge thank you to the following for coming out to the Retreat House Landscape Project today!  Larry, Bob, Keith and Carol, Vikki and Todd, Dick Clark, John Cunningham, Susan Finch, Susan Balkite, Joe Januik, David Beattie and Greg Smith. Thanks to Carmella for the delicious cookies and to Chuck for retrieving one of the original sundials from the Pinckneys to place in the side garden!

The beds just need a bit of tilling, but they are about ready to add new azaleas and some Iris’s that Vikki is sharing with us. Betsy is looking for someone to take a look at the circle of bricks around the column to repair and we hope to add a sundial to the top of this column. Stay tuned for the next date for volunteering!

Pump Station Clean Up

Good morning, Pinckney Retreat!

On 7/13, we sent out an email with some updates from the Board. One of the items listed was a spruce up the common area surrounding the pump station near the corner of Ponvert and Gautier. This area has not been touched in years and was completely overgrown. There was a leaning Laurel Oak at one of the corners of the lot and Southern Tree was contacted about its removal. While they were here, they gave us a quote to clean up the pump station area. Since they could do it while they were already on site for tree removal, they were able to give us a discounted price.

On Wednesday, September 11th, Southern came out to remove the tree. While cleaning up the overgrowth, it was discovered that in places that looked like overgrown shrubbery was nothing more than tangles upon tangles of vines, so the space was left barer in areas than we expected. Southern also did more of a topping of the existing shrubs, leaving lots of woody stalks behind. The look was not exactly what we expected, but something that is easy enough to remedy.

The next step will be having someone coming in to remove those remaining branches/stumps, clean the ground area up and level it out closest to the corner of Ponvert and Gautier. When that is completed, we will add some small palms/palmettos and fast-growing wax myrtles to fill in. This combination of plants is currently part of that landscape and can be seen throughout common areas in Pinckney Retreat. We will also add some wax myrtles as a screen for the pump equipment.

I know many of you have noticed the “rough” look of the area – and honestly, we were a little shocked ourselves, but we do have a plan to make sure that the outcome is in keeping with the beauty of our neighborhood. Going forward, this area will be added to a regular maintenance plan to be sure that this type of overgrowth does not happen again and need such a drastic clean-up.

Thanks for being patient with us as we adjust our plan a bit. If anyone has any questions or would like more information, please email us at PinckneyRetreatBoard@gmail.com and we’ll be happy to answer anything we can!

Construction Rules Update

Since the Pinckney Retreat Board of Directors has taken over governance of the Community Association from the developer, we have been reviewing items that might need to be updated. One item identified in need of an update is construction hours that builders, contractors, and landscapers are allowed to work in our neighborhood. After researching what construction rules other communities similar to us are using, the board approved the following: Monday-Friday 7:00am until 7:00pm, Saturday 7:00am until 4:00pm and no work allowed on Sundays.

The gate code access has been set up to reflect these changes and the current builders, contractors and association landscapers will be notified by email or in person. If any owners have personal landscapers or contractors doing work for you, please notify them of the new hours that their gate code will allow them access.

If you have any questions, please contact us at PinckneyRetreatBoard@gmail.com
